The domes, formed by compression rings with the bricks slanting inwards and downwards at critical points of the curvature, are thus extremely stable and resistant to earthquakes. Ground tremors that cause flat roofs to cave in do not affect a catenary dome, since the compression rings are so tight that there is no space for building material to fall inwards.

Since direct sunlight falls on only one side of the curved surface of the dome, this form has the additional advantage of differing temperature zones on the outer skin that creates a constant CONVECTIONAL MOVEMENT OF AIR AND CLIMATE CONTROL within. In hotter climates, such as Rajasthan, a small opening provided at the top of the dome ensures that hot air rises to create a cooling draft inside the structure.

The house consists of a series of catenary domes (as opposed to the more usual hemispherical form), which imitates the form of an egg, the shape of an animal burrow, a beehive and natural caves. The more elongated dome evolves its form from gravity to ensure that the lines of force fall within the narrower walls and therefore avoid the expensive buttressing often needed for hemispherical domes.

The use of local building materials has historically proved to be the most sustainable. In the developed world, cement and steel are affordable, in the third world they are not.

The focus in this form of building is manpower and its employment potential is vast.

Finally there is also the aesthetics of a dome and the pleasure of living in domed structures.
